A shoplifting attempt at the Westfield Garden State Plaza turned violent when a man allegedly punched a loss prevention officer before fleeing, Paramus police said.
Officers responded to the store at approximately 2:40 p.m. Friday, July 31, for a reported robbery in progress, after a loss prevention officer told police he heard the store's electronic article surveillance system activate and investigated the alarm, Paramus Police Chief Robert Guidetti said. Jacqua Cowan, 19, is wanted in the killing of 24-year-old Jamier Allen in March 2025 in Albany, the U.S. Marshals Service said Monday. He is considered armed and dangerous.
