Man Dies Days After Early-Morning Nassau County Robbery: Police
A man who was critically injured during an early-morning robbery on Long Island has died, police announced on Tuesday, Sept. 22.
The victim, identified as Justinn Thomas, 30, of South Hempstead, succumbed to the head injuries he suffered in the robbery, according to the Nassau County Police Department.
The robbery happened near May Street and Grand Avenue in South Hempstead at approximately 5:27 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19, police said.
Officers responding to reports of a robbery that had just occurred found Thomas suffering from head injuries, detectives said.

A Long Island teacher admitted to sending and soliciting nudes to and from underage girls on Monday, Sept. 21, authorities said.
Ryan J. McCaffery, 38, of Ridge, cut a plea deal in the appalling case about 18 months after he resigned from Riverhead High School, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office announced.
McCaffery created profiles on Snapchat and Kik, where he posed as a teen boy and communicated with hundreds of accounts, investigators said. His Snapchat account was “c_chambers77” and he also used the name “Asherkonlon2,” officials previously said.

A man who traveled to Long Island to kill his new lover’s ex-boyfriend was sentenced Tuesday, Sept. 22.
Victor Panebianco, 33, of King, NC, got 25 years in prison for killing Christopher Millwater in November 2025, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office said.
Panebianco’s new girlfriend, Kacy Corso, is set to get seven years in prison at her sentencing hearing Wednesday, Sept. 23, according to the DA’s office.

A Long Island senior withdrew $20,000 in a technology-based scam but wised up just in time and called the cops, police said.
Biaodi Jiang, 50, of Brooklyn, was arrested Monday, Sept. 21 for the failed scam, the Nassau County Police Department said.
The would-be victim, a 68-year-old Baldwin man, was greeted Monday morning by a message on his computer claiming it had been compromised and displaying a phone number to call, according to police.

Pet-Hating LI Woman Left Shattered Glass Around Apartment Complex, Authorities Say
A Long Island woman is facing an animal cruelty charge for taking creative measures to keep pets away from her apartment, authorities said Tuesday, Sept. 22.
Joyce Hamlett, 61, of Central Islip, scattered pieces of shattered glass and mothballs in common areas of her apartment complex in August, the Suffolk County SPCA said.
In addition to pets, multiple children under age 17 live in the complex, investigators said. However, Hamlett was focused on deterring animals from entering the areas, according to the SPCA.
