Englewood's Alisa Dawes Dies, 30, Remembered For Kindness
Funeral services have been set for Alisa Dawes, a 30-year-old Englewood woman remembered by loved ones as a “bright light” who “lifted others with her kindness.”
Dawes died on Tuesday, Aug. 19, according to her obituary. Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 5, from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by homegoing services from 11 a.m. to noon at Eternity Funeral Service, 129 Engle St., Englewood. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. at Crest Haven Memorial Park, 750 Passaic Ave., Clifton.

The Garden State Parkway was closed in Bergen County Friday, Aug. 22 due to an overturned vehicle, the DOT website shows.
John Henry Dasilva, 27, of New Milford, was driving northbound on the Garden State Parkway near Exit 171 when he saw a gray BMW SUV traveling at an estimated 80 to 90 mph veer onto the grass median on the southbound side at around 9:50 a.m., he tells Daily Voice.
The vehicle crashed into trees in the center of the parkway and flipped forward, he said. Dasilva was unable to stop but called police to report the crash, he said.

A wanted parole violator led police on a multi-town chase through Morris County in a stolen van Thursday afternoon, Aug. 21, authorities said.
At 2:20 p.m., a resident on Ryan Court in Chester Township reported a suspicious man standing outside a silver minivan in their driveway, according to police, Chester police said. Officers arrived and learned the van was stolen and had been involved in a pursuit earlier that morning in Roxbury Township.

A Paterson man has been convicted in the 2024 shooting death of a well-known street vendor, authorities said Thursday, Aug. 21.
Jimmy Mercedes, 41, was found guilty Thursday, Aug. 21, of murder and multiple weapons charges in the May 5, 2024 killing of 62-year-old Daryle Robinson Sr., Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said.
